Tales of Borneo: In a cave

The Gomantong caves are famous for their colonies of bats and swiftlets. Swiftlet nests are used for making Bird's nest soup, and are sold at a very high premium. Along with bats come mountains of guano, literally, and accompanying those mountains were a powerful smell and an abundance and multitude of creepy-crawlies. Cockroaches were everywhere and you would more likely place your hand on one than on the handrail of the boardwalk. Flip flops are definitely not advised, and raincoats are essential! All in all a fantastic experience.

From top to bottom: a pair of long-legged centipedes; cockroach shedding it's skin; skylight into the cave.
